Welcome to Hair Salons Apex NC. I created this site to provide a resource for women who are looking for the best beauty salons in the area where they live.  Has your hair stylist of 15 years ever moved on you?  Or have you ever moved away from your hairstylist of 15 years?  If the answer to that question is yes, then Hair Salons Apex NC is the site for you.

Yes, I realize that this is an odd name for a web site, but there is a reason for choosing this particular combination of words.

You see, when a resident in Apex North Carolina needs a good hair stylist, whether it be for a simple haircut or a complete foil color with high and low-lights, there is a pretty good chance that you will log on to your computer and type in: Hair Salons Apex NC … or maybe Apex NC Hair Salons in order to find a hair studio to handle your needs.

If you are anything like me, finding a good hairstylist is super important in your life.  And when you move to a new place, finding a hair salon or hairstylist is usually your first priority.

I moved to North Carolina from the West Coast, California specifically, and the first thing I searched out was a hairstylist.  I started with word of mouth.  That’s okay, but it’s not the easiest way.  You can do a Google search, which I did, but actual hair salons are going to pop-up.  This doesn’t tell you if these stylists are actually good.  I decided to create a localized resource where women like myself can go to find hair studios and beauty salons that they can feel confident going to.

Most of the cities and towns I have lived in in North Carolina had neighbors who are transplants from other states: a lot of them are women.  We all need a good hair stylist, no arguing about that!  Finding good hair color is also important and those resources will be covered here as well.

And, I wanted you to find my website because unlike other sites that may pop up, I do not own my own hair salon company.

I am actually an impartial consumer who was once in your shoes and had a bad enough experience looking for a hair stylist when I first moved to North Carolina that it motivated me enough to create this site to help protect you.

It was kind of my civic duty to do so! lol

Now, I am not going to bash any beauty salon out there but I will make a solid recommendation of two very good hair studios that are licensed, bonded, insured and that you can trust to take care of you.

In addition to this, I want to educate women on the different salon services offered and the skill level of the hair stylist and give you enough knowledge to confidently make an informed decision when choosing your hair colorist or stylist.

Now, the experience I had was an expensive one.  Because I had come from the West Coast where everything was overpriced I thought surely, in the South everything will be cheap, including getting a cut and color.  It couldn’t possibly be more money than the $90 I paid to my old stylist which included cut, color AND tip.  The first mistake I made was going to a chain.  And then walking in and not bothering to find out about pricing.  I asked for an appointment with a seasoned stylist for cut and color.

My second mistake was not finding out that this particular chain of hair salons had a tiered-level of stylists and when I requested the most experienced I also unknowingly requested the most expensive.

My third mistake was not asking for a color price list.  I didn’t know I had to because with my old hair stylist she had one price; no matter what she did  coloring my hair.

I had no idea that all over color, versus foils, versus highlights, low lights and everything in between was a completely different price.  I also assumed blow drying and styling my hair was all part of the deal.  Wrong…!

So, first my hair was colored.  It seemed to take an unusually long time.  I think the stylist triple-booked herself.   She then cut my hair, rather quickly and nothing to write home about.  She then proceeded to use her fingers to blow dry my hair.  And didn’t even finish the job!  I think I had been there so long she was tired of me…lol.  Is this the way they would treat people at a Mario Tricoci Salon?  I don’t think so!

The biggest shock…the bill!  $175.00, without tip…with a 15% tip, that’s a $200 haircut!  And I’m not rich….and I didn’t even like the cut OR the color…So for those of you who have had a bad haircut and hair color experience this site is for you!

And if you are in need of a new hair stylist because you just moved to the area or some grays have started to come in and you need advice on color, or anything in between, this site is also for you.

Before I got started in this epic quest to find a qualified hair stylist, I didn’t know a thing about hair color.  I did not know the difference between highlights versus low lights, what it meant to have a full foil versus partial foils, or who the infamous Mario Tricoci is… maybe you don’t either?

No worries!  I will cover all of this at Hair Salons Apex NC. We will look at your hair needs discuss what your options are and how to choose the best stylist.

I will show you how to safely color your own hair for those of you on a budget with advice on how to do this offered by professional hair stylists!

Most importantly though, this site will help you hire a Hair Stylist in Apex NC that is honest and professional.

The last thing you need is to have some hack hair stylist  messing around with your head to put you  in danger of looking like a freak!

Also, the prices hair stylists charge for various services is all over the board.  You can get ripped off very easily when going to an unfamiliar salon, just like I did, because most of the time the salons take the assumption that you are not going to ask questions… it is just not something we deal with very often.

It is also important that you know what organizations a hair stylist should belong to like the National Cosmetology Association, and know that they are required to have a Cosmetology License to be able to style hair.  They are also required to take courses to keep their license up-to-date.

You will want to know if the hair salon owner is a Master Hair Stylist  or just a guy/gal who has run out of companies to get fired from and started his/her own business? If so, I doubt he/she has insurance and should something bad happen to your hair you may be in for quite a “shock”.

I also will eventually get into tanning salons, nail salons, estheticians and salon spas once I have more information on those companies.  It is always nice to go to a hair studio that also has a nail person or esthetician as well, so you can get everything done at once.

Hopefully after spending a few minutes at my site, Hair Salons Apex NC, you will be able to make an informed decision on who to cut or color your hair or have the confidence that you can do it yourself…at least the hair color part!

Well, we all know how difficult it is to find a great hair salon or hair stylist that you stick with for years on end; at least most women feel that way.  I have finally found that person since moving from California to Apex, North Carolina six years ago.  Her name is Renee Llyod.  She opened her own salon a few years ago in downtown Apex.  It is called enV Salon and Color Bar.  You have to go there just to experience the ambience; it’s a very cool place!  If want a great cut and color then you’re in for a treat!

Hair has always been one of the bases of a woman’s beauty, which is why we tend to spend more money for hair care over other products that will help us improve other parts of our body. If you are going to search the Internet, you will be seeing a lot of products, techniques, and methods that are promising to improve the overall appearance of your hair.

We tend to believe that the more we cut our locks, the faster it will grow, and the more beautiful and shiny it will be. This is the reason why a lot of women tend to go to hair salons often just to cut their tresses, believing that this will help them make their hair beautiful. Unfortunately, this won’t help them in any way because our hair grows at the rate of half an inch per month regardless of how often you cut your locks.

There is no exact rule regarding the frequency of visiting a hairdresser. Having your hair cut by a hairdresser is fully optional, but if you want to have a fresh look, trimming it once or twice every month is advisable. We all have different tresses textures and styles, and these are some of the factors that should be considered to determine how often you should cut your hair.

Another factor that should be considered is the chemicals that you are using for your hair. There are products that work best for long hair, and if you are using these kinds of products, then cutting your hair twice every month is not advisable. You should always consult a hair expert whenever you want to cut your hair because they can give you a more professional advice.

Always remember that visiting your hairdresser once every month is advisable, but cutting or trimming your hair is fully optional. The beauty of your hair depends on how you take care of it, and not on how often you cut your hair.

For most women, their hair is their crowning glory. Women spend countless hours per week thinking about, washing, conditioning, and fixing their hair into a wide variety of styles. In order to have a great look, it is important to find a hair salon that is just right for you. Stylists who work in the top hair salons in Los Angeles have some helpful advice for those who are looking for a hair salon that is just right for them.

Perhaps one of the best ways in which to find the right salon is word of mouth. Stylists in the top hair salons advise that a helpful strategy is to look for other women who have great hair styles and ask them where they go to get their hair cut. An even more important tip would be to specifically look for persons who have a great cut that have the same general hair type and texture as you. Asking others where they get their hair done is truly a great compliment, and most inquiries will be met with a wealth of information as to the best places to go.

Sometimes people are under the impression that the best salons are the ones who have the nicest, newest buildings and are the priciest in town. Not so, say stylists at the top hair salons. While a great-looking salon with lots of extra amenities and all of the bells and whistles may be the best place to go, this is not always the case. Paying more for a haircut does not ensure that you will get the best cut that is right for you. Often, the smaller mom and pop types of salons are just as good, if not better choices. The smaller salons often have stylists who have had lots of great experience. As they may not be as busy as the larger salons, they should also have more time to actually listen to the needs of their clients and to make suggestions as to various cuts and styles.

Stylists at the top hair salons advise that you pay close attention to the little things in a salon. If the office appears to be dirty or in disarray, don’t go there. Also, if the stylist has hair that looks damaged or unkempt, usually this is a red flag that they will not have an interest in paying attention to the care of your hair either. It is also important that the stylist that you chose has a personality type that works well with your own. With a little research, it is possible to find the hair salon that perfectly meets your needs.

You decide you want to color your hair so you go the nearest Target pick up a box of haircolor look to see if it matches your shade and you go home to color.  And you hate it!  Why is that?  Has this happened to you? It’s definitely happened to me.

This is because you have to pay attention to the color of your eyes, your skin tone, the color of the  clothes you wear and the natural shade of your hair.  This is where a color chart comes in handy.

If you are a brunette it is difficult to know whether to color your hair lighter or darker and whether to even use highlights.  If you are a blonde you want your color to look fresh and not muddied, and if you are a redhead you do not want your haircolor to appear brassy.

The first thing you need to figure out when choosing hair color is what color category do you fall into.

Cool Category:

If you are two or more of these, then you fall into the cool category.

If your Eyes are:

Deep brown or black-brown

Gray blue or dark blue

Hazel with white, gray or blue flecks

Natural Hair Color:

Blue black

Deepest coffee brown

Medium ash brown

Medium golden brown

Dishwater blonde

Salt and pepper
White

Skin Tone:

Very dark brown

True olive (most Asians and Latinos)

Medium with no color in cheeks

Medium with faint pink cheeks

Medium with golden undertones

Pale with no color in cheeks

Pale with pink undertones
Brown or bronze when I tan

Here is a great How To Color Your Hair YouTube Video by a professional makeup artist:

Some would argue that to find a good hair stylist you first have to find a great hair salon.  Others would argue it’s the hair stylist that matters most.  Either way, do not be afraid to ask for reviews or references.  If the salon or stylist has had positive reviews they will be more than happy to share them with you.  If not don’t bother.

Start out by looking at women’s hairstyles you like and ask them where they go to get their hair done.  They will be more than happy to share this information since you just paid them a huge compliment.

Even better, notice women’s hair who has a similar texture and color as yours.  If she also has a flattering hairstyle that suits her face then you know her hair stylist has the skill and techniques to make this work.

If you are on a budget but still want a great cut try and find a beauty academy in your area.  You can find beauty academies in most metropolitan cities.  You can get a great cut by a student who is supervised by a professional.  And the price is greatly reduced.

If you want to go the traditional route, after receiving recommendations from family and friends, ask to interview your stylist.  They should be happy to free of charge.

Following are a list of questions you will want to be sure to ask:

  • First impressions are important so don’t ignore them.  Do you feel a connection with this person?
  • How does the stylist appear in terms of dress and demeanor?  If they appear disheveled and flustered what you see is what you get.
  • What does the stylists hair look like?  This is the absolute biggest indicator.  If this person’s hair is badly cut or   damaged that is a major red flag.
  • Did the hair stylist ask questions about you and what styles you like?  On this visit, a great hair stylist would get your hair styling history.  They should ask questions about your lifestyle to and find out how much time you have to spend styling your hair.
  • It is important for stylists to keep up with current trends and technique so ask about ongoing education and training in the salon.
  • Is the hair salon clean and well-organized?
  • Were you greeted at the reception desk and did they actually pay attention to you? Or did you feel like you were at the meat counter and had to take a number.  Remember  you have lots of choices here.
